Workout 11/29/14: Squats & Deadlifts – Squat PR!

Yeah, you read that title right. ANOTHER Personal Record on the Squat. It wasn’t much, but gains is gains and I added another 5lbs to the bar.

Let’s get to it.

Squats: 45lbs(bar) x10 x1, 115lbs x5 x1, 135lbs x5 x2, 140lbs x5 x2, 105lbs x8 x1

Dead Lifts: 45lbs(bar) x10 x1, 155lbs x5 x1, 195lbs x5 x3, 135lbs x10 x1

Like I said, it was a hard set. On the Squats, even though it was only a 5lb increase (2.5lb on each side) I had to fight for the last few reps of each set. Then when I did the high-rep set at the end, I was trying to do as many as I could with good form. I did 9, but the last one’s form sucked hard and my body was giving out, so it didn’t count. On the Deadlifts, I felt my grip loosening pretty bad during the 2nd & 3rd sets of the 195lb, but I kept on. On the final high rep set, I went until I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold the bar anymore. Barely getting 10 out of it. But it was worth it.

It was a hard training session, but I know that I will be stronger next time. I’m starting to appreciate, more and more, just how taxing it is both mentally and physically to lift heavy weights. It is a test of your mind and will as much as it is a test of your body.

Crank your favorite or most motivational music, focus on the task at hand, remember your “why” and keep moving forward. Destroy your fitness plan for the day.

P.S. I had a Happy Gainsgiving Eve present come my way. Well, technically I purchased it, but still.
