Those who pursue excellence don’t always “win”.
While those who win don’t always pursue excellence.
Decide by yourself what you want your contribution to be in whichever arena you’re competing. And don’t discard your goals.
Even if you have to stop, restart the engine, service the car, recover from injuries– You can keep your own personal goal in view.
That’s often better than just attempting to be a “winner”, because that can hinge on someone else’s point of view.
At least I’m still in the game.
Are you?
“Winners never quit!” What utter crap to deliver to unsuspecting masses! — lastflyingcow.com
Thanks, Matt. I needed to hear these words today.
Please go check out LastFlyingCow.com (link above in the quote). Matt is an artist and he has made some really fun comic strip art and has been currently working on a new project featuring a warrior princess. He’s been pushing and working on his craft constantly.
Go show him some love.

I’m not one for slogans, no matter how well intentioned they are. I agree with your view of what constitutes a “winner” and when it comes to “quitting” I do know that sometimes you have to take a break from your desire/goal/obsession for your own mental health, and if you live long enough, life will definitely place roadblocks in your path to stop you dead in your tracks. Doesn’t mean that you can’t keep the dream alive while you’re on hiatus, and pick it back up when you replenish your reserves (because reserves do eventually run out, especially if you’re constantly on the grind to “win”).
Definitely agree with you. That’s why I liked the quote I shared from Matt’s article at LFC.
Whoops. Posted it on the wrong site. Let me go post it on his article. Nice share.
Hahaha no worries man!
